National Campaign
midwivesonline.com Launch Campaign to Save Lives
A UK-wide campaign has been launched to save the lives of mothers and babies who are at risk due to a national shortage of 10 000 midwives.
midwivesonline.com who offer maternity advice for mothers and health professionals, are campaigning on behalf of the mothers and babies whose lives are being lost due to a lack of appropriate care. They are asking people across the country to sign a petition demanding that the government lift the current freeze on NHS midwife vacancies; and increase the number of midwives being trained by 10 000 over the next two years.

If you have already signed our petition find out what more you can do
By signing this you declare that you are extremely concerned at the inadequate number of midwives in the NHS and the increased number of injuries and deaths caused by the low number of midwives.
You therefore request that the House of Commons call upon the Government to increase the number of midwives to be trained in 2007 and 2008 by 5,000; remove the freeze on the hiring of NHS midwives; provide the necessary resources for Heads of Midwifery, so that they can significantly increase the numbers of experienced midwives in their maternity units; provide one midwife per mother for the whole of labour; and provide every pregnant mother with a ‘named midwife’ and an acceptable level of midwifery contact for care during pregnancy and post natal care.
