When should I feel my baby move?

When should I feel my baby move?

I am 20 weeks pregnant today and I am worried about not able to feel the baby. I have been asking my friends who have been pregnant when they felt there baby move most of them said 16 weeks but I'm 20 and I'm not feeling anything is this something to worry about?

Babies start to move very early in pregnancy, many women are amazed at how active their baby is when they have the first scan around 12 weeks of pregnancy, despite feeling nothing. However the time when you actually start to feel those movements can vary quite considerably. Some women do feel movements as early as 16 weeks but this is unusual in a first pregnancy, it's more likely to be somewhere between 18 and 22 weeks, but it may even be a little later.

The initial movements you feel may be confused with other sensations, first movements can feel like flutters, 'butterflies' or even wind in your tummy, the bigger kicks and movements come later.

Your midwife will be able to listen to the baby's heartbeat, contact her and tell her about your worries; she will probably ask if you'd like an appointment so that you can hear baby's heartbeat and offer some reassurance that all is well.
