My feelings have changed

My feelings have changed

Its only 1 month since I had my baby and I feel that my feelings have changed towards my partner – I feel really flat and I don’t really know what to do?

Try not to be too hard on yourself. It is only a month since you gave birth. Most women are still trying to cope with their baby’s demands, and adjust to parenthood at this stage. Unfortunately, it often leaves very little time to consider your partner. It is not unusual for the partner to feel neglected or left out when the baby arrives. The love and attention that was once shared with your partner has suddenly been transferred to the baby. This can be quite a shock to couples.

It is good that your partner has mentioned this to you. You will need to sit down and talk about it further, ideally during a quiet period when your baby is settled. It may be a good idea to spend an evening out together to focus on your relationship. Try to arrange for a baby sitter for a few hours. You may want to surprise your partner and book a table at your favourite restaurant.

The main thing is to keep communicating, and remembering that your circumstances are not unique. Most couples will notice a change with a new baby, and you will both adjust to this in time.
