Empower

EmpowerDefinition - Empower: to permit allow and enable

When you think about empowered women who do you think about?

Are these some of the people, you came up with:

  • Madonna
  • Katie Melua
  • Britney Spears
  • Nicole Kidman
  • Sharon Osbourne
  • Josh Stone
  • Beyonce
  • Oprah Winfrey
  • Kylie Minogue
  • Victoria Beckham
  • Liz Hurley
  • Anita Roddick
  • Mother Teresa
  • Condoleeza Rice
  • Margaret Thatcher

Well you don’t have to be famous and rich to be empowered however we all know that these women are good examples of how empowered women can stand out, be in control and in the lime light.

What about the rest of us who are pregnant young mums struggling to make ends meet and pulling our hair out due to lack of sleep? It may be a fact that you are pregnant or you have just had a baby. Feeling helpless, frustrated and sorry for ourselves is OK for short while. However all things happen for a reason but that reason may not be clear to us at first. It has happened so accepting it is half the battle; now learn from it. You have the power to make a difference in this baby’s life by setting a good example. The baby is the innocent one in this situation and so deserves kindness and attention. You can only be kind if you are and first kind to yourself.

We all know of people out there that seem to order us about trying to tell us what to do, when to do, it and how to do it. These people try and make you feel powerless and insignificant. Many of us tend to do things in life that pleases others with no concern for ones own needs. This is fine if they are trying to help us better our lives and make us stronger and better about our self. Well you too can feel more in control and empowered by taking more time for your self and trying some of the suggestions below.

"Remember no one can make you feel inferior without your consent."
Eleanor Roosevelt

Take action

We have to give our self-permission to be in the driving seat of our lives.

We can have empowering thoughts or disempowering thoughts. Disempowering thoughts will make you weaker in mind and spirit while empowering thoughts and actions will make us stronger and more in control. Have a look at the examples below. The more we think and do on the right hand side of the table the more in control we can become.

Our thoughts effect our emotions and our emotions affect our behaviour and that in turn can determine our character. In other words the more we can focus on better and more positive thoughts the greater our chances of being empowered.

Disempowering Empowering
I have poor self belief I believe in my self
I can’t change I can change
I feel uninspired I feel motivated
I can’t say no I can say no
I act indecisively I act decisively

Feeling empowered on a daily basis can be thrilling and give you more energy and vitality to do more for your self and others. Give your self permission to have this.

Decide each day to say,

“I am in control of my life”

Even if you think you are feeling fat as a hippo and having a bad hair day, and no sleep.

“Today I am going to face challenges head on and to overcome them by going around them, under them, over them or even through them”

Each day we become stronger by our actions or we become swamped and weighed down by what life throws at us. Learn from each day and make tomorrow even better!!
