Professional Profile
Catharine has worked within the UK National Health Service (NHS) for over 20 years. Nineteen of those have been spent in midwifery and Catharine remains an active practitioner.

Catharine's midwifery clinical experience includes Ward Manager, Delivery Suite Co-Ordinator, Transitional Care Manager, community team, case-load midwifery, Clinical Researcher and Lecturer in clinical search skills for practitioners within the NHS and Aquarobics Teacher. Catharine has also appeared as a conference speaker.

In the early 1990's Catharine sought to develop her academic and research skills, which included obtaining an Advanced Midwifery Diploma and Bachelor of Science Degree in Midwifery. Catharine has published a number of articles and research papers and has been a keynote speaker at several London conferences and UK-wide study days. Within the last five years Catharine has worked in the field of Midwifery research whilst also remaining in clinical practice. During this period she undertook in-depth academic training in advanced research methods. Catharine also has the experience of working within a team of knowledgeable researchers in developing multi-centred, randomised, controlled trials.

As a result of these experiences, Catharine has gained extensive knowledge in the art of literature searching and the use of computerised healthcare databases and application to midwifery clinical practice. She has combined her clinical expertise with information technology to form several comprehensive training packages known as HITTS.

Catharine has a passion to promote evidence based clinical practice within midwifery, recognising that this is the key foundation on which midwifery knowledge and care should be built. From here midwives will gain their confidence to continue to develop midwifery through the 3rd millennium. As a result, Catharine developed midwivesonline as a midwifery-led, one-stop information portal where all midwives and related healthcare professionals find hyperlinks to assist in access and retrieval of the latest scientific evidence, chat rooms, job vacancies, courses & conferences, info for 'wannabe midwives' and the latest product innovations, all to support career development.

Concerned at the lack of midwifery-led, quality information for parents on the Internet Catharine used her professional experience to develop the 'For Parents' section of midwivesonline.com inviting parents to access information relevant to their experience during pregnancy birth and the post-natal period.

Catharine is committed to continued investment and development of midwivesonline.com to ensure ongoing, trusted information for midwives and new parents long into the future.
